- Raising Awareness and Hope for Prostate Cancer Warriors"Battle for the Bulge" was a tongue-and-cheek phrase, turned heartfelt, that my wife's friends came up with to rally support and awareness to the devastating scourge that prostate cancer is for men and the people who love them.B.A.T.T.L.E. is an acronym for: Be Brave, Armor Up, Trust your Team, Triumph Over Fear, Lean into your Faith, and Engage in Life.

How common is prostate cancer?
- The American Cancer Society’s estimates for prostate cancer in the United States for 2024 are:
- About 299,010 new cases of prostate cancer.
- About 35,250 deaths from prostate cancer in America alone.
- About 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime.
- Prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death in American men.
- About 1 in 44 men will die of prostate cancer.
- Most men diagnosed with prostate cancer do not die from it. In fact, more than 3.3 million men in the United States who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point are still alive today.
- Since 2014, the incidence rate has increased by 3% per year overall and by about 5% per year for advanced-stage prostate cancer.

Please Help Me Fund This Book!
In November 2023, my life changed radically with a prostate cancer diagnosis. Initially considered "the easy" kind, it soon revealed itself to be much more aggressive, spreading to my bones and lymph nodes. After undergoing a radical prostatectomy, Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT), and soon to start 8-weeks of radiation, I've faced many physical and emotional challenges, both expected and unexpected, but also found incredible hope and clarity in this battle.
I am now on a mission to share my journey of hope, faith, and antifragility through a book, aiming to inspire others to live an EPIC Life and raise awareness for prostate cancer warriors. Your support will help make this vision a reality. Join me in turning adversity into inspiration.

This was me, completely unaware to how dramatically my life and mindset was about to change.
A few very short months after that race picture was taken I found myself in the hospital having major surgery. Thinking I was as tough as anybody... little did I know how difficult the emotional and mental battle really was (and is).
$10 from every t-shirt purchased goes directly to my prostate cancer advocay project.
There are two different designs to pick from and a special t-shirt for wifes of prostate cancer warriors!

More of my story... An account of antifragility: Embracing hope amidst adversity
In the fall of 2023, life took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Initially dubbed "the easy" kind with a promising 99% cure rate, my wife (Angie) and I decided to keep it a secret, confident that we could manage it quietly. However, three months later, everything changed dramatically.
The biopsy results showed a daunting Gleason Score of 8 (4+4), indicating aggressive cancer that had spread to my bones (pelvis) and lymph nodes. Suddenly, our world was engulfed in uncertainty and fear. Despite undergoing a radical prostatectomy and starting an aggressive regimen of Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT) and later a rigorous 8-weeks of radiation the battle wasn't over (and still isn't). The cumulative side effects of all these interventions proved devastating. The physical and emotional toll felt (and continues to feel) overwhelming at times.
Yet, amidst this storm of physical and mental health challenges, a beacon of hope emerged. Each day became a testament to resilience and the unwavering support of loved ones and friends. Their encouragement and prayers became my strength, guiding me through the darkest moments of a very tough mental health battle all helping me to actually improve and benefit from this disruption. I don't just want to be resilient, I want us all to be antifragile.
Today, as I look ahead, still entrenched in the front lines of this battle, I am filled with optimism and excitement for the future. The journey we are on has taught me invaluable lessons about the fragility of life, importance of faith, and the power of Hope. It's a reminder that even in the face of adversity, there is always a reason to believe in brighter days ahead.
Join me in this journey of hope and healing. I am now on a mission to write a book that offers hope. This book aims to inspire others facing similar battles, showing that even in the darkest times, there is always a reason to believe in brighter days ahead. But I need your help to write it and get it distributed!

My Ask:
Help Me Publish and Distribute This Book:
I am an experienced (and award-winning) author and understand the challenge and commitment of writing. I have written seven books, but this one I want to self-publish so that more of the proceeds go to where I want them to go instead of to publisher's profits and overhead. The funds raised will help cover the costs of writing, editing, marketing, and distributing the book. I want to ensure that it reaches as many people as possible, providing hope and inspiration to those who need it most.
- Every donation, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to turning this vision into reality. Your support will not only help me share my story but also contribute to the ongoing fight against prostate cancer and its horrible side-effects.
- Donation Tiers: Tier 1: Any donation of at least $50 (USD) gets you a copy of the book when it is published.
- Tier 2: $200 gets you the book, a Battle For The Bulge t-shirt, and regular progress reports and exclusive first glance excerpts.
- Tier 3: $500 gets you that PLUS your name (or company logo) on the back of a custom t-shirt as a donor/supporter.
- Tier 4: $750 or more gets all that AND a special acknowledgment in a prominent place in the book.
- Tier 5: (Corporate level - limited to 5) $1000 gets all that AND your logo on the back cover/dust jacket of the book and your logo on this webpage and other marketing materials.
- Join me in this journey of hope and healing. Your generosity means more than words can express. Thank you for being part of my story and for your support in making a difference.
- Warm regards,
- Matthew R. Kutz, Ph.D.
The importance of my faith in this battle
Here is a brief excerpt of a message Matt conveyed to his church family about his diagnosis and importance of belief and faith in this or any battle.
But even if He doesn't... is a reference to Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and how they responded to King Nebuchadnezzar before being thrown into a furnace to be burned alive (Daniel 3:18-20).
